Self care and mental health during Covid lockdowns

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought a lot of disruption to our lives. For many, our routines have changed dramatically and are much harder to maintain. Research shows during these stressful times, being able to create structure in your day can help you feel more in control to take some self care time for you.

Having a routine helps to signal the time of day, they let us know when to eat, sleep, when to exercise, get sunlight, when to relax and provide us with more time and opportunities for the things we value and enjoy.

Start your self care routine now with some of the below ideas:

  • Exercise
  • Connecting with others
  • Healthy eating
  • Self-care
  • Activities than bring you joy
  • Activities for mental stimulation
  • Relaxation
  • Set sleep/wake time

Some people thrive on structure, others enjoy a more relaxed plan. Start small, be flexible and prepared to regularly change your routine. Be creative and open to trying new routines as this gives you some self care time.
